Lambton College: Mechanical Engineering Online |
Learning Designs Online consulted with Lambton College, a preeminent Canadian petrochemical engineering institution, to develop an online strategy. In partnership with Bell Canada, LDO designed and developed a complete delivery strategy and prototype online courses for the college’s Instrumentation and Fluid Mechanics program.
The result was a pioneering learning experience that set a new standard for interactivity and for higher education on the Internet at that time (1997). The online, interactive content incorporated text, graphics, video and simulations—including a fully interactive laboratory simulation.
The Fluid Dynamics lab, for instance, allowed online students to conduct full experiments—adjust experimental conditions, make observations, take measurements (water flow speed, pressure variables, etc.), and calculate experimental values. Students are expected to write up the full experimental results and submit the lab report to professors by email.
